Medway Optics Ltd has added to its wide range of sampling accessories portfolio tungsten carbide dies for pellet preparation. In addition to the standard line of hardened stainless steel KBr dies, this latest addition enables hard geological mineral and other corrosive sample materials that would normally dent, scratch or attack stainless steel surfaces to be conveniently pelleted for infrared spectroscopic and X-ray fluorescence/diffraction analysis.

With a Mohs hardness figure of 9 (Diamond =10) tungsten carbide is one of the hardest materials available and coupled with its high resistance to chemical attack, durability and moderate cost, it is an ideal substitute for stainless steel dies in many instances. The dies are available in many sizes from 3mm to 40mm diameters complete with matching pellets, plungers and extractor rings.
